Itinerary

Cairo the capital of Egypt, and the most populated city.  Cairo was founded in 969 C.E., and was famous for its Islamic Architecture.  Cairo is home to the Egyptian Museum, with the largest collection of Pharoic antiquities in the world.  The museum has over 140,000 items on display that include ancient coins, golden masks, crypts, statues, paintings, and much more.  The Cairo Citadel contains the Mosque of Mohammed Ali, and it was the center of the Egyptian government until 1874.  The ancient Roman fortress of Babylon is located in Old Cairo, the Coptic Museum, the Church of St. George, and the Hanging Church are all located inside the fortress.
Alexandria is the second major city in Egypt and located on the Mediterranean Coast.  Alexandria was founded in 331 B.C. by Alexander the Great.  The Lighthouse of Alexandria is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. There are still many ancient ruins to explore, but a lot of the ancient buildings were destroyed in wars and earthquakes.  Some of it has fallen into the sea.
The pyramids of Egypt were built to house the dead kings and queens with all of their worldly possessions, including treasures.  The smaller pyramids that surround them were for their close family members, and the high consorts of court.  They were made with many rooms and passageways to confuse robbers at to where the actual tomb was situated.
