Our day started bright and early when our friendly driver picked us up from our hotel in Eilat at 08:15 in the morning. The smooth journey to the Jordan border was just the beginning of a well-organized and memorable adventure. With assistance throughout the border proceedings, we felt taken care of every step of the way. Upon reaching Petra, we were greeted by our qualified, licensed guide who was a fountain of knowledge. We entered the city through the Siq, a crack in the sandstone that dramatically opens up to reveal "The Treasury". This iconic facade, carved into the sandstone in the typical Roman architectural style, is an awe-inspiring sight that no photograph can do justice to. The tour package includes an optional horseback ride for the first 200 meters of the route, which adds a dash of adventure to the experience. However, do keep in mind that tipping the carrier is expected and can range from 10-30 dollars. Our guide then led us to see the Roman theater, a testament to the cultural life of ancient Petra. The sight of tombs standing between the theater's seatings, once home to over 4000 spectators, is a poignant reminder of the city's vibrant past. Petra's many temples, statues, and about 800 facades, each more impressive than the last, held us spellbound throughout the tour. After a morning of exploration, we enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch at a local restaurant, providing an authentic taste of Jordanian cuisine. The return journey was equally impressive, with several stops at various observation points to appreciate the stunning landscapes of Jordan. This desert region's vast, rugged beauty added a perfect endnote to a day filled with historical and cultural discoveries. We arrived back at our hotel in Eilat at 19:30, tired but enriched by our journey into the past. This Petra Day Tour from Eilat is A must-do for anyone visiting Eilat!
