The Siq: Walk 1.2 kilometers through a narrow gorge with walls rising 80 meters. See Nabataean water channels, Djinn Blocks, the Obelisk Tomb, and remnants of the original paved road. At the end, the Treasury (Al-Khazneh) appears, a 40-meter-high masterpiece carved into the sandstone around the 1st century BCE.

The Street of Facades and Roman Theater: Monumental tomb facades lead to the 8,500-seat theater carved into the hillside with tombs above the upper rows.

The Royal Tombs: Four massive facades on the cliff face of Jabal al-Khubtha. The Urn Tomb, converted to a Byzantine church in 446 CE, is the most impressive.

The Colonnaded Street and Qasr al-Bint: The main civic thoroughfare of ancient Petra, leading to one of the few freestanding temples in the city.

Your guide explains how the Nabataeans controlled ancient trade routes and engineered water systems in the desert, building a city of 20,000-30,000 people.

12:45 PM - Free Time in Petra

After the guided tour, explore at your own pace. The most popular option is starting the hike toward the Monastery (Ad Deir), Petra's largest monument at 47 meters wide (approximately 800 steps, 30-45 minutes up). Time permitting, you may also revisit your favorite spots or explore the High Place of Sacrifice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Petra and Wadi Rum 2 day tour from Tel Aviv work with flights?

You fly from Ben Gurion Airport (Terminal 3) to Ramon Airport near Eilat on an early morning domestic flight (approximately 1 hour). At Ramon Airport, our representative meets you and transfers you to the Jordan border. After two days in Jordan (Wadi Rum + Petra), you return to Ramon Airport and fly back to Ben Gurion on the evening of Day 2. The round-trip flights are included in the tour price. You check in at Ben Gurion by 04:00 AM on Day 1 and land back at approximately 23:00 on Day 2. This eliminates the exhausting 5-hour overnight bus ride to Eilat.

How is this Petra and Wadi Rum 2 day tour from Tel Aviv different from the Eilat version?

The itinerary in Jordan is identical: Aqaba, Wadi Rum Jeep safari, Bedouin glamping, and Petra guided tour. The only difference is how you get to Eilat. The Petra and Wadi Rum 2-day tour from Eilat is for travelers already in Eilat (no flights needed, lower price). This Petra and Wadi Rum 2 day tour from Tel Aviv adds round-trip domestic flights so travelers in central Israel can do the same tour without spending a day driving to Eilat. If you're already in Eilat, book the Eilat version and save.

What is the Bedouin glamping camp like on this Petra and Wadi Rum 2 day tour from Tel Aviv?

The standard camp (Luxury Rum Magic Camp or similar) provides deluxe tents with real beds, private bathrooms, electricity, heating in winter, and air conditioning in summer. WiFi is available in the communal area. The camp sits in the heart of Wadi Rum with dramatic rock formations visible from your tent. For an upgrade, ask about the Martian Bubble Tent, a transparent dome that lets you stargaze from bed. During winter months (December-February), the overnight may change to a hotel in Aqaba due to cold desert temperatures.

How much does the Petra and Wadi Rum 2 day tour from Tel Aviv cost in total?

Tour price: $450 per adult, $380 per child, $250 per infant. This covers flights, all Jordan transportation, guide, Petra entrance ($130 value), Jeep safari, glamping, dinner, and breakfast. On top of the tour price, border and visa fees are approximately $140 per person in cash at the border. You can pre-pay border fees as a booking extra to skip the exchange booth and fast-track through the queue. Optional airport transfers: $70 each way. Budget an additional 20-40 JOD for lunches. Total all-in cost per adult: approximately $590-$700 depending on options.

What is the Wadi Rum Jeep safari like on this Petra and Wadi Rum 2 day tour from Tel Aviv?

You ride in an open-top 4x4 Jeep driven by a local Bedouin who knows every formation, inscription, and hidden canyon. The safari covers 2-3 hours through towering sandstone mountains, natural rock bridges, ancient inscriptions, and vast desert plains. You stop for photos, short walks, and climbing opportunities. The landscape looks like Mars, which is why The Martian and Star Wars were filmed here.

Children aged 2+ are welcome. The Jeep safari is exciting for kids. The Bedouin camp is a memorable adventure for families. Approximately 4.5-5 hours total: a 2.5-hour guided tour plus 2 hours of free time. This is more than a day tour gives you and enough to see all the main highlights plus start the Monastery hike if you're fit. For the most extensive Petra experience (full afternoon + full morning), consider the Petra 2-day tour from Eilat which stays overnight in Petra.

Is it safe to travel from Tel Aviv to Petra and Wadi Rum?

Yes. This route is operated daily by experienced professionals. Jordan is a stable, tourism-friendly country. Both Petra and Wadi Rum have full tourist infrastructure. The Arava border crossing is a routine international crossing used by thousands of tourists weekly. For current advisories, consult the Israel Ministry of Tourism and the Jordan Tourism Board.

If you can spare two days, this tour is the far richer experience. If you only have one day, the Petra day tour is still a powerful option.

Your tour price ($450 adult, $380 child, $250 infant) covers everything you need for two days in Jordan: round-trip domestic flights (Ben Gurion Terminal 3 to Ramon Airport and back), airport representative at Ramon Airport, all ground transportation in Jordan (air-conditioned coach, border transfers, Aqaba to Wadi Rum, Wadi Rum to Petra, Petra to border), full border crossing assistance on both sides of the Arava border, a 2-3 hour Wadi Rum Jeep safari with a local Bedouin driver, one night in a Bedouin glamping camp (deluxe tent with private bathroom, bed, heating/AC), authentic Zarb barbecue dinner at the camp, breakfast at the camp, a licensed English-speaking guide for the Petra tour, Petra Archaeological Park entrance fees ($130 value), and all Jordanian taxes and service charges. What is NOT included: border and visa fees ($140, payable in cash or pre-payable as a booking extra), lunches on both days, optional activities in Aqaba and at the camp, airport transfers in Israel, tips, and personal expenses.

What about visas and border fees on this Petra and Wadi Rum 2 day tour from Tel Aviv?

Most nationalities receive a Jordan visa on arrival at the Arava border crossing. You do not need to arrange a visa in advance. Our border assistance representative handles the visa paperwork and guides you through the entire process on both the Israeli and Jordanian sides. The total cost for border fees and visa is approximately $140 per person, paid in cash (USD, EUR, or NIS accepted) at the crossing. To save time and avoid carrying cash, you can pre-pay border fees as a booking extra when you book the Petra and Wadi Rum 2 day tour from Tel Aviv. Pre-paying lets you skip the exchange booth and fast-track through the queue. Important: not all nationalities are eligible for a Jordanian visa on arrival. Contact us before booking if you hold a passport from a country not listed in Jordan's visa-on-arrival program. Israeli passport holders must use their Israeli passport at the border.

Here is the exact time breakdown for the Petra and Wadi Rum 2 day tour from Tel Aviv (standard Sun-Wed and Friday departures). Day 1: Airport check-in at 04:00 AM, flight to Eilat 1 hour, border crossing 45-60 minutes, drive to Aqaba 15 minutes, free time in Aqaba 2.5 hours, drive to Wadi Rum 45 minutes, Jeep safari 2.5 hours, then camp check-in and dinner. Thursday departures follow a reversed order (Petra first, Wadi Rum second) with a shorter Day 2 to catch the 15:00 Friday return flight, landing at 16:00. Active touring time is the same. The flight option saves you 10 hours compared to the bus alternative.

How physically demanding is this Petra and Wadi Rum 2 day tour from Tel Aviv?
