The Dead Sea sits at the lowest point on earth, and floating in its salty water is one of the most memorable experiences in Israel. Masada, Herod's mountain fortress, rises right above the shore, with the Ein Gedi oasis and the Qumran caves close by. Together they make one of the most popular day trips in the country, from Jerusalem, Tel Aviv or Eilat.
Use our Dead Sea and Masada guide to plan the day, then pick a beach with the Dead Sea beaches guide and read the Masada visitor guide for the cable car and hiking options. The desert gets very hot, so start early and bring water shoes. Our Masada and Dead Sea tours include hotel pickup and a licensed guide.

Yes. Most day tours visit Masada in the morning, by cable car or on foot, then spend the afternoon floating at a Dead Sea beach before driving back to Jerusalem or Tel Aviv.
Spring, autumn and winter are the most comfortable. In summer temperatures often pass 40 degrees Celsius, so plan an early start and keep midday for the water and the shade.
Water shoes, a towel, sunscreen, plenty of drinking water and a swimsuit you do not mind getting salty. Avoid shaving the day before, because the salt stings small cuts.
