This Petra and Jerash tour covers two of the great ancient cities of Jordan in two days. You walk the Roman streets of Jerash on day 1, sleep in Petra, then ride into the Rose Red City through the Siq on day 2. A licensed English-speaking guide, entrance fees, a horse ride in Petra, lunch in Petra and one 3-star hotel night with breakfast are included.
Day 1 starts in Eilat or Amman. After the border formalities you drive north to Jerash for about two hours among its theaters, hippodrome and oval forum, then continue south to Petra for the night. On day 2 you spend three to four hours in Petra, from the Treasury to the Roman theater and the royal tombs, and leave at around 14:00 for the border and your hotel transfer.
The trip suits travelers who want more than Petra alone but only have two days to give Jordan. Sleeping in Petra means you start the second morning fresh at the site instead of after a long drive. This Petra and Jerash tour is also a good pick for history lovers, since Jerash is one of the best preserved Roman cities in the Middle East.
Pickup is at 07:45 in Eilat or Amman, and a transfer from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem to the Sheikh Hussein crossing can be added for an extra fee. You stay in a 3-star hotel, priced per person in a double room for 2 or more travelers, or as a single room if you travel solo. The booking form shows the exact price for your room and number of travelers. Because the hotel night is pre-paid, the Petra and Jerash tour is non-refundable. Short on time? Your Petra and Jerash tour begins with pickup at 07:45 in Eilat or Amman. If you start in Eilat, you cross into Jordan with the group and meet your Jordanian guide after the border formalities. Keep your passport and cash for border fees and the visa within reach.
You spend about two hours in Jerash, a Roman provincial city that was buried for centuries by earthquakes, wars and sand. Walk through the oval forum, the colonnaded main street and the North and South theaters, and see the long hippodrome near the entrance. Your licensed local guide explains how the city worked at its peak.
After Jerash you head south through the Jordanian highlands toward Petra. It is a long drive, so it is a good time to rest before the big day tomorrow. You reach Petra in the evening.
Check in to your 3-star hotel near Petra and enjoy a free evening in the town of Wadi Musa. Breakfast is served at the hotel the next morning.
After breakfast you enter Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage site built by the Nabataeans. The horse ride is included. Then you follow the Siq, a narrow crack in the sandstone, until the facade of the Treasury appears at the end.
With your guide you spend three to four hours in the site, from Al-Khazneh, the Treasury to the Roman theater, temples and rock-cut tombs. Our Petra visit guide explains what to see if you want to plan your time. Wear good walking shoes, since the paths are sandy and uneven.
Lunch in Petra is included in the price. It is a welcome break after the morning on foot.
At around 14:00 you leave Petra and drive back to the border. The supplier plans the return through the Sheikh Hussein or Allenby crossing, and after border formalities you are transferred to your hotel. If you started in Eilat, we confirm your return route after booking.
