Christian Jerusalem 2 Day Tour

  • Duration2 days
  • Starts07:15 AM, hotel pickup
  • GuideEnglish
  • Group sizeUp to 45 travelers
  • CancellationNon-refundable: this tour includes a pre-paid hotel night.

Overview

One rushed day is never enough for the Holy City, so this Christian Jerusalem 2 day tour gives it two. Over two fully guided days you walk the Old City, stand at the Western Wall, visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and spend time at Yad Vashem. Then a second day follows the last days of Jesus, from the top of the Mount of Olives down to the Via Dolorosa.

Day 1 opens with the classic view from the Mount of Olives and enters the Old City through Zion Gate. You cross the Armenian and Jewish Quarters, walk the Byzantine Cardo, pause at the Western Wall and follow the Way of the Cross to the Holy Sepulchre. After a short drive through modern Jerusalem, the day ends at Yad Vashem. Day 2 is all about the Gospel story: the Chapel of the Ascension, the Pater Noster church, Dominus Flevit, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Pools of Bethesda and the Roman paving stones under the Sisters of Zion convent.

This Christian Jerusalem 2 day tour suits pilgrims, church groups, couples and first-time visitors who want meaning, not a checklist. Splitting the city over two days means you are not racing from church to church. You have time to read a verse in Gethsemane, light a candle near the tomb and still have the energy to take it all in. A hotel night in the middle keeps the pace calm.

Pickup is from your hotel in Tel Aviv (around 07:15) or Jerusalem (around 08:30), and you are dropped back at your hotel at the end of day 2. You sleep in a tourist class hotel with breakfast, confirmed on your voucher. Choose a double, triple or single room, and the booking form shows the exact per person price for your date, room type and pickup city. Because the hotel night is pre-paid, the Christian Jerusalem 2 day tour is non-refundable. Only have one day? Itinerary & route

Loading route map…

Numbers match the itinerary below. Solid lines are walking legs, dashed lines are drives. Map is for orientation only.

  1. Day 1Old City and New Jerusalem
  2. 1
07:15 AMHotel pickup in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem

Your day starts with pickup at your Tel Aviv hotel at around 07:15, or at around 08:30 if you are staying in Jerusalem. Pickups can begin 30 to 60 minutes earlier, and we send the exact time the day before. On the drive up, your guide gives you a quick tour of 3,000 years of Jerusalem history.

  3. 2
    MorningMount of Olives viewpoint

Begin above the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives. The Old City and the Temple Mount spread out in front of you, with the Garden of Gethsemane, the Church of All Nations and the Kidron Valley below. Your guide shows you where the First and Second Temples once stood.

  4. 3
Late morningZion Gate, the Cardo and the Western Wall

Enter the UNESCO-listed Old City through Zion Gate and pass through the Armenian Quarter. In the Jewish Quarter you walk the Byzantine Cardo, once the main street of the city, where Crusader-era shops now hold modern stores. Then stand at the Western Wall, part of the retaining wall King Herod built around the Temple Mount.

  5. 4
AfternoonVia Dolorosa and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre

Follow the Via Dolorosa through narrow Old City lanes, the same route pilgrims have walked for centuries. It leads to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, built over the traditional site of the crucifixion and the tomb of Jesus. Your guide explains how the Byzantine church was damaged, then rebuilt by the Crusaders.

  6. 5
Late afternoonJaffa Gate, the new city and Yad Vashem

Leave through the busy market and Jaffa Gate for a short drive through modern Jerusalem. The day ends at Yad Vashem, Israel's memorial to the Jewish communities destroyed in the Holocaust and to the Righteous Among the Nations who tried to save them. Children under 10 are not admitted to the museum, and on Fridays your guide may change the order of the day because the site closes early.

  7. EveningOvernight at your tourist class hotel

Check in to your tourist class hotel, which is named on your booking voucher. The evening is yours, so rest your feet or head out for dinner on your own. Breakfast is served the next morning before day 2 begins.

  8. Day 2In the Footsteps of Jesus
  9. 6
MorningChapel of the Ascension and the Pater Noster church

Day 2 starts at the summit of the Mount of Olives. In the small Chapel of the Ascension, tradition says a stone still holds the last footprint of Jesus before he rose to heaven. Nearby, the Pater Noster church marks where he taught the Lord's Prayer, now shown on tiles in more than 100 languages.

  10. 7
Mid-morningDominus Flevit and the Garden of Gethsemane

Walk down the steep lane to Dominus Flevit, the teardrop-shaped chapel where Jesus wept over Jerusalem. Its altar window frames the Old City perfectly. At the foot of the hill you reach the old olive trees of Gethsemane and the Church of All Nations, where Jesus prayed on the night of his arrest.

  11. 8
MiddayLions' Gate, the Pools of Bethesda and St. Anne's Church

Cross the Kidron Valley and enter the Old City through Lions' Gate. You see the excavated Pools of Bethesda from the Gospel of John, where Jesus healed a man who could not walk. Next to them stands the Crusader Church of St. Anne, built over the grotto honored as the birthplace of Mary.

  12. 9
AfternoonThe Lithostrotos and the Way of the Cross

Under the Convent of the Sisters of Zion you step down to a water cistern from the Second Temple era. Nearby lie the Lithostrotos, Roman paving stones that many believe mark where Pontius Pilate judged Jesus. From here you set out along the Way of the Cross, retracing his path toward Golgotha.

  13. 10
EveningDrop-off at your hotel in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem

The tour wraps up in the Old City and you ride back in the air-conditioned vehicle. You are dropped at your hotel in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem with two full days of Jerusalem behind you.
