8 Day Aqaba Diving Tour with Petra and Wadi Rum

  • Duration8 days
  • StartsDay 1, hotel pickup
  • GuideEnglish, Spanish, Russian, French
  • Group sizeUp to 15 travelers

Overview

This aqaba diving tour pairs four days in the Red Sea with two of Jordan's great desert sights. You land in Amman, base yourself in Aqaba for guided dives at the city's best reefs and wrecks, then trade fins for a 4x4 in Wadi Rum and finish with a full visit to Petra. Diving equipment, a dive guide and transport are all arranged for you.

Day 1 is arrival in Amman. On day 2 you drive south to Aqaba and make your first dive that afternoon. Days 3 to 5 are full diving days with two dives each, followed by lunch at the dive club. Day 6 starts with a free morning for snorkeling or the beach, then a jeep tour in Wadi Rum and a night in Petra. Day 7 is Petra, from the Siq to the Treasury and the Royal Tombs, before the drive back to Amman. Day 8 is your airport transfer.

The trip suits divers who want real time underwater, not a single token dive squeezed into a sightseeing tour. Eight days gives you a relaxed rhythm: settle in, dive four days in a row, then dry out on land before you fly, which most divers prefer anyway. Non-divers traveling with a diving partner can still enjoy Aqaba's beaches, Wadi Rum and Petra on this aqaba diving tour.

You are met at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman and transferred to your hotel. Hotels are on a bed and breakfast basis, and you choose 3-star, 4-star or 5-star hotels on the booking form, either per person in a double room for 2 or more travelers or a single room if you travel solo. A lower child rate applies on the double room options, and the form shows the exact price for your hotel level and number of travelers. The tour departs daily, subject to availability. Because the hotels are pre-paid, this aqaba diving tour is non-refundable. Short on time? Itinerary & route

Loading route map…

Numbers match the itinerary below. Solid lines are walking legs, dashed lines are drives. Map is for orientation only.

  1. 1
    Day 1Arrival in Amman

Your trip starts at Queen Alia International Airport, where our local team meets you after you land. You are driven straight to your hotel in Amman with no touring planned, so you can rest after the flight. Get a good night's sleep before the drive south. Overnight in Amman.

  2. 2
Day 2Drive to Aqaba and your first dive

After breakfast you head south on the four-hour drive to Aqaba, Jordan's only coastal city. Check in to your hotel, then go out in the afternoon for your first dive in the Red Sea. It is a good chance to test your gear and get comfortable with the conditions. Overnight in Aqaba.

  3. 3
    Day 3Red Sea diving day

A typical diving day begins after breakfast, with a first dive at around 10:00 and a second at around 14:00. Each dive is at a different site along the Gulf of Aqaba, which is known for clear water, healthy coral and colorful fish. Lunch is at the dive club between the two dives. Overnight in Aqaba.

  4. 4
    Day 4Wrecks and coral gardens

Another two-dive day, again at 10:00 and 14:00. The dive plan covers the area's best known sites, such as the Cedar Pride shipwreck, the Japanese Garden and the Gorgonian coral reefs. You return to the dive club for lunch after the morning dive. Overnight in Aqaba.

  5. 5
    Day 5Final day of diving

Your last full diving day follows the same easy routine of two guided dives with lunch at the dive club in between. Your dive guide picks sites you have not yet seen, so every dive feels different. Spend the evening by the sea and enjoy your last night on the coast. Overnight in Aqaba.

  6. 6
Day 6Free morning, Wadi Rum jeep tour and Petra

After breakfast the morning is free for snorkeling, swimming or simply relaxing on the beach. Early in the afternoon you drive north into Wadi Rum for a 4x4 tour among its sandstone mountains and canyons. After sunset you continue north to Petra and check in to your hotel. Overnight in Petra.

  7. 7
Day 7Petra and the drive back to Amman

Your visit to Petra, the ancient Nabatean capital, starts on horseback and continues on foot through the Siq, a long narrow gorge between towering cliffs. It opens onto the Treasury, then the route continues to the Royal Tombs, burial chambers and high places of sacrifice. In the late afternoon you drive back to Amman. Overnight in Amman.

  8. 8
    Day 8Departure from Amman

After breakfast you are transferred to Queen Alia International Airport, with assistance at the airport formalities. This is where the tour ends. Need more time in Jordan? Ask us about an extra night before you fly.

Frequently asked questions

What does the aqaba diving tour price include?

The price covers your arrival and departure transfers, transportation throughout, 7 hotel nights on a bed and breakfast basis, diving equipment and a dive guide, lunches, the Wadi Rum jeep tour and the guided Petra visit. You pick 3-star, 4-star or 5-star hotels on the booking form, and the form shows the exact price for your hotel level and number of travelers.

How many dives are included?

The program plans one dive on the afternoon of day 2 and two dives a day on days 3, 4 and 5, at around 10:00 and 14:00. That adds up to seven planned dives at different sites, from the Cedar Pride wreck to coral gardens. Sea conditions can affect the exact plan on the day.

Do I need a diving certification?

The supplier's description does not list a certification level, so please tell us your certification and number of logged dives when you book. That way the dive center can plan the right sites for you. If you are not yet certified, contact us before booking so we can check the options.

Where does the tour start and end?

The tour starts and ends at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman. You are met on arrival on day 1 and taken back to the airport after breakfast on day 8. Book your flights to arrive on day 1 and leave on day 8.

Do I need a visa for Jordan?

Bring a passport that is valid for your whole stay. The Jordan visa, departure tax and any border taxes are not included in the price, so keep cash ready for them. We need your nationality, passport number, issue and expiry dates and date of birth to confirm the booking.

Which hotels will I stay in?

You spend one night in Amman, four nights in Aqaba, one night in Petra and a final night in Amman, all with breakfast. You choose the hotel level, 3-star, 4-star or 5-star, when you book. Hotel names are sent with your confirmation.

Can children join?

Yes. A lower child rate is available on the double room options, and the booking form shows it. Diving has its own age and certification rules, so please contact us before booking for children who plan to dive.

How fit do I need to be?

You should be comfortable with two dives a day and a fair amount of walking in Petra, where the route through the Siq and to the tombs covers several kilometers on uneven ground. Wadi Rum is done by 4x4. Note that the supplier says no insurer covers accidents involving horses or other animals.

When is the best time to dive in Aqaba?

Aqaba can be dived all year. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable for combining diving with Petra and Wadi Rum. Summer is hot on land, and winter evenings in the desert can be cold, so pack warm layers from November to March. Our Israel, Jordan and Egypt travel guide has more planning tips.

Can I cancel or change my booking?

This package is non-refundable because the hotel nights are pre-paid as soon as you book. If your plans change, please contact us and we will check whether other dates are possible, subject to availability. Full details are in our booking terms.
