Overview

This 11 day Jordan tour covers the whole kingdom at an easy pace, starting and ending in Amman. You see the Umayyad desert castles, float in the Dead Sea, walk the mosaic streets of Madaba, spend two nights in Petra, sleep under the stars of Wadi Rum and finish with Roman Jerash and the hilltop castle of Ajloun. Airport transfers, transport, entrance fees to the listed sites, local guides in Petra and Jerash and ten hotel nights with breakfast are all part of the package.

You land at Queen Alia International Airport and spend your first nights in Amman, with a day trip east to the desert castles and down to the Dead Sea. On day 3 you head south through Madaba, Mount Nebo and Little Petra to Petra, where a full guided day on day 4 takes you through the Siq to the Treasury and beyond. A jeep ride in Wadi Rum leads to Aqaba on the Red Sea for three nights, including two free beach days. You then return to Amman for a city tour with Jerash and Ajloun before your airport transfer on day 11.

This 11 day Jordan tour suits travelers who want more than a quick look at Petra: first-time visitors who like a relaxed rhythm, couples who want beach time after the sightseeing, and history lovers drawn to Nabataean, Roman and Crusader sites. Eleven days leaves room for two nights in Petra and two free days in Aqaba, so you never feel rushed between highlights.

The price is per person in a double room at 3-star hotels, with a separate rate for solo travelers in a single room. You can upgrade to 4-star or 5-star hotels and add extra nights or a transfer from Israel on the booking form. Because all hotel nights are pre-paid, this 11 day Jordan tour is non-refundable. 1. 1
    Day 1Arrival in Amman

Your driver meets you at Queen Alia International Airport and takes you to your hotel in Jordan's capital. The rest of the day is free to rest after your flight. You sleep at your hotel in Amman.

  2. 2
Day 2Desert Castles and the Dead Sea

After breakfast you drive into the eastern desert to the Umayyad castles of Kharana, Amra and Azraq. Quseir Amra is a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its frescoes, and Azraq is where Lawrence of Arabia stayed while writing part of Seven Pillars of Wisdom. In the afternoon you continue to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, for a float in its salty water. You return to Amman for the night.

  3. 3
Day 3Madaba, Mount Nebo and Little Petra

Head south to Madaba and Saint George's Church, home of the 6th century Madaba mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Next comes Mount Nebo, where Moses looked out over the Promised Land. The day ends at Little Petra, also called Siq al-Barid, a smaller Nabataean site with buildings carved into a sandstone canyon. You sleep at your hotel in Petra.

  4. 4
Day 4A Full Day in Petra

Today is all about Petra, the Rose City and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. You walk through the Siq, a narrow gorge about 1 km long with cliffs up to 80 meters high, and arrive at the Treasury. With a local guide you explore the rock-cut tombs, the Roman-style theater, temples and the colonnaded street. Our Petra visitor guide has tips for the climb to the Monastery if you have energy left. You spend a second night in Petra.

  5. 5
    Day 5Petra to Wadi Rum

After breakfast you drive south to Wadi Rum, the desert valley T.E. Lawrence called vast, echoing and god-like. A 1.5-hour jeep ride takes you past red dunes, rock bridges and canyons in this UNESCO-listed protected area, known locally as the Valley of the Moon. You spend the night in Wadi Rum, with details in your voucher.

  6. 6
    Day 6Wadi Rum to Aqaba

A morning transfer brings you to Aqaba, Jordan's resort town on the Red Sea. The rest of the day is free for the beach, the waterfront or the old fort and market. You sleep at your hotel in Aqaba.

  7. 7
    Day 7Free Day in Aqaba

Enjoy a full free day by the Red Sea. Snorkel the coral reefs along the south beach, take a glass-bottom boat or simply relax at the hotel. You spend another night in Aqaba.

  8. Day 8Second Free Day in Aqaba

Another free day to slow down before the last stretch of the trip. Many travelers use it for a dive, a spa visit or a lazy afternoon on the beach. You sleep at your hotel in Aqaba.

  9. 8
    Day 9Aqaba to Amman

After breakfast you are transferred north to your hotel in Amman. The drive takes most of the day, and the evening is free to explore Rainbow Street and the cafes nearby. You sleep at your hotel in Amman.

At 09:00 you set out on a panoramic tour of Amman, from the downtown area and the old Gold Souq to the bazaars, Rainbow Street and the modern Abdoun district, with a chance to taste kunafa, the local cheese pastry. You then visit the Roman city of Jerash with a local guide, walking its colonnaded streets, temples, theaters and plazas. The day ends at Ajloun Castle, built in 1184 by one of Saladin's generals to guard the routes to the Jordan Valley. You return to Amman for your last night.
