Israel Package Tours
Three days is the right amount of time to see Jerusalem properly and still float in the Dead Sea, and that is exactly what this Jerusalem and Dead Sea 3 day tour is built around. You walk the Old City from the Western Wall to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, head below the streets in the City of David, and trace the last days of Jesus from the Mount of Olives. On the first afternoon you also drop through the Judean Desert to the lowest point on Earth for a swim and a mud treatment.
Day 1 opens with the view from the Mount of Olives, then crosses the Cardo, the Western Wall and the Via Dolorosa before driving down to a Dead Sea beach. Day 2 is Jewish and biblical Jerusalem, with King David's Tomb on Mount Zion, the Four Sephardic Synagogues, the Herodian mansions and the ancient water system of the City of David. Day 3 follows the Gospel story from the Chapel of the Ascension and Gethsemane to the Pools of Bethesda and the start of the Way of the Cross.
This Jerusalem and Dead Sea 3 day tour suits first-time visitors, couples, families with kids aged 4 and up, and faith travelers who want depth without rushing. Jerusalem has layers from King David to the Crusaders, and three guided days let you take them one at a time. The Dead Sea afternoon adds a real break from the stone streets, and two hotel nights mean you never spend a whole evening on the road.
Pickup is from your hotel in Tel Aviv at around 07:15 or in Jerusalem at around 08:30, and you are dropped back at your hotel in either city after day 3. You stay 2 nights in tourist class hotels with breakfast, named on your booking voucher. Choose a double, triple or single room, and the booking form shows the exact per person price for your date, room type and pickup city. Because the hotel nights are pre-paid, the Jerusalem and Dead Sea 3 day tour is non-refundable. Short on time? Look at the Jerusalem, Masada and Dead Sea 2 day tour, spend a slow day on the Dead Sea relaxation tour, or compare all 3 to 5 day Israel tours. Numbers match the itinerary below. Solid lines are walking legs, dashed lines are drives. Map is for orientation only.
Pickup from Tel Aviv hotels is at around 07:15, and from Jerusalem hotels at around 08:30. Pickups can start 30 to 60 minutes earlier, and we confirm your exact time the day before. Keep your passport with you, since you will need it during the tour.
The first stop is the classic lookout on the Mount of Olives, with the golden Dome of the Rock and the Old City rooftops spread out below. On the way down you pass the Garden of Gethsemane, the Church of All Nations and the ancient tombs of Zechariah and Absalom in the Kidron Valley.
Enter the UNESCO-listed Old City through Zion Gate and cross the Armenian Quarter to the Cardo, the Byzantine main street where old Crusader shop fronts now hold modern stores. In the Jewish Quarter you reach the Western Wall, the holiest place of prayer for Jews, where you can leave a written note between the stones.
Walk the Via Dolorosa past the Stations of the Cross to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which holds the last five stations, Golgotha and the tomb of Jesus. You leave through the Christian and Muslim Quarter markets, a good spot for souvenirs and a glass of fresh orange juice.
Drive east through the Judean Desert, past the sea level marker and the oasis city of Jericho, down to the Dead Sea. The water is about ten times saltier than the ocean, so you float without trying. Cover yourself in the black mineral mud, rinse off in the sea and enjoy the warm desert air.
Check in to your tourist class hotel, which is named on your booking voucher. Dinner is not included, so the evening is yours to rest or explore. Breakfast is served the next morning before day 2.
After breakfast you are picked up from your hotel and drive along the Kidron Valley to Mount Zion. Inside King David's Tomb a velvet cloth embroidered with a lyre and crown covers the cenotaph, and men and women pray in separate sections.
Through Zion Gate you enter the Jewish Quarter and visit the Four Sephardic Synagogues, built in the 17th and 18th centuries and restored after 1967. Nearby you see the foundations of a 2,700-year-old city wall from the time of King Hezekiah, and the Cardo excavations still in progress.
Step below today's streets into 2,000-year-old Herodian mansions, where the original mosaic floors and ritual baths are still clear to see. They give a vivid picture of how wealthy families lived in the days of the Second Temple. You then return to the Western Wall for a second, quieter visit.
Leave the Old City through Dung Gate to the excavations of the City of David, the 3,000-year-old heart of biblical Jerusalem. Your guide explains how the Canaanites and later King Hezekiah cut tunnels to bring water inside the walls. The visit ends at the Gihon Spring, where the Bible says Solomon was anointed king.
Return to your tourist class hotel for a free evening. Breakfast is included the next morning, and you are picked up again for the final day.
Day 3 begins at the top of the Mount of Olives in the small Chapel of the Ascension, where a stone is said to hold the last footprint of Jesus. Next door, the Pater Noster church shows the Lord's Prayer on tiles in more than a hundred languages.
Walk down to Dominus Flevit, the teardrop-shaped chapel where Jesus wept over Jerusalem, and look at the Old City through its altar window. At the foot of the hill you reach the ancient olive trees of Gethsemane and the Church of All Nations, where Jesus prayed before his arrest.
Enter through Lions' Gate to see the Pools of Bethesda and the Crusader Church of Saint Anne, honored as the birthplace of Mary. Under the Sisters of Zion convent you see a Second Temple era cistern and the Roman paving stones linked to the trial of Jesus. From here you set off along the Via Dolorosa.
