Galilee and Golan Heights 2 Day Tour

  • Duration2 days
  • Starts07:15 AM, hotel pickup
  • GuideEnglish
  • Group sizeUp to 45 travelers
  • CancellationNon-refundable: this tour includes a pre-paid hotel night.

Overview

Waterfalls, a hilltop castle, a night on a kibbutz and the mystic lanes of Safed: this galilee and golan heights 2 day tour is made for travelers who want to see Israel's green north up close. A licensed English-speaking guide leads both days, pickup is from your hotel in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, and you sleep at a kibbutz guesthouse in the north with breakfast before day 2 begins.

Day 1 heads up to the Golan Heights. Look down on the Sea of Galilee from the Shalom Observatory, walk through the ancient Talmudic village at Katzrin, visit the Golan Antiquities Museum and stand on Mount Bental above the Syrian border. Day 2 starts with a walk around the kibbutz, then follows the springs and streams of the Banias, climbs to Nimrod Fortress, pauses for lunch at a Druze restaurant and ends in Safed, the city of Kabbalah.

This Galilee and Golan Heights 2 day tour is ideal for nature lovers, history fans, families and anyone curious about Jewish heritage beyond Jerusalem. The upper Golan and Safed are a long way from Tel Aviv, so a one-day trip only scratches the surface. Sleeping on a kibbutz puts you close to day 2's sites and gives you a look at a way of life that helped shape modern Israel.

Pickup is at around 07:15 in Tel Aviv or 06:00 in Jerusalem, and you return to the same city on the evening of day 2. Choose a double, triple or single room, and the booking form shows the per person price for your date. The kibbutz night is prepaid, so this package is non-refundable. Want a shorter taste first? Itinerary & route

Loading route map…

Numbers match the itinerary below. Solid lines are walking legs, dashed lines are drives. Map is for orientation only.

  1. Day 1The Golan Heights Plateau
  2. 1
07:15 AMHotel pickup in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem

Your trip begins with hotel pickup at around 07:15 in Tel Aviv or 06:00 in Jerusalem. Your driver may arrive up to an hour earlier on longer routes, and we confirm the time the day before. The drive north runs up the coast, then crosses the farmland of the Jezreel Valley toward the Sea of Galilee.

  3. 2
MorningSea of Galilee lookout and the Shalom Observatory

A first stop above the south end of the lake gives you the classic view, with the water in front and the Golan cliffs behind. Then cross the Jordan River, pass the hot springs of Hamat Gader and climb to the Shalom Observatory, where the Sea of Galilee and the town of Tiberias lie far below.

  4. 3
MiddayAncient Katzrin and the Golan Antiquities Museum

Explore a village from the time of the Talmud, rebuilt from its own black basalt stones, with a synagogue, family homes and an oil press. In modern Katzrin, the Golan Antiquities Museum fills in the bigger picture with finds from the region and a film about the ancient Jewish town of Gamla.

  5. 4
    AfternoonMount Bental border lookout

Climb Mount Bental for one of the widest views on the Golan, from Mount Hermon, often snowy in winter, to the Syrian plain in the east. Old trenches and bunkers line the summit. Below you lie the old town of Quneitra and the ceasefire line that UN forces have watched since 1974.

  6. EveningOvernight at your tourist class hotel

Tonight you stay at a kibbutz guesthouse in the north, a tourist class hotel in a quiet country setting. Check in, have dinner at your own pace and enjoy the calm evening air. Breakfast is served the next morning before day 2 begins.

  7. Day 2Upper Galilee: Springs, Castles and Safed
  8. MorningA walk around the kibbutz

After breakfast, take a short walk around the kibbutz. Your guide explains how these shared communities began, how they work today and why the kibbutz movement played such a big part in building the country.

  9. 5
Late morningBanias in the Hermon Stream Nature Reserve

Drive to the foot of Mount Hermon and the Hermon Stream Nature Reserve. At the Banias you see the cliff shrines to the god Pan from the Roman city of Caesarea Philippi, then walk shaded paths beside streams, pools and waterfalls. It is easy to see why visitors compare it to the Garden of Eden.

  10. 6
    MiddayNimrod Fortress

Wind up the mountain road to Nimrod Fortress, a huge 13th century castle on a narrow ridge. Climb its towers and walls for sweeping views over the Golan and the valleys below.

  11. Early afternoonLunch at a Druze restaurant

Stop for lunch at a local Druze restaurant, a chance to taste fresh pita, labaneh and grilled dishes from this close-knit community. Lunch is not included in the package and is paid on the spot.

  12. 7
AfternoonSafed: synagogues and the Artists' Quarter

End in Safed, the hilltop city where Jewish mystics taught Kabbalah in the 16th century. Visit the Caro Synagogue and the Ari Synagogue, then wander the Artists' Quarter, packed with small galleries and studios.

  13. 8
EveningDrop-off at your hotel in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem

Head south out of the Galilee and back to the center of the country. Drop-off is at your hotel in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem in the evening, depending on traffic.
