Jerusalem Travel Guide: Old City, Holy Sites and Local Tips

This Jerusalem travel guide brings together everything we have written about the city, from the four quarters of the Old City to the viewpoints on the Mount of Olives. Jerusalem is holy to Jews, Christians and Muslims, and most of its famous sites sit within a short walk of each other inside the Old City walls. That makes it easy to see a lot in one day, and easy to miss the details without a guide.

Start with our Old City Jerusalem guide for the layout, then read the guides to the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Temple Mount. Christian travelers will find a full route in our Christian Jerusalem guide. When you are ready, our Jerusalem tours include hotel pickup from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem and a licensed guide.

Frequently asked questions about Jerusalem

How many days do I need in Jerusalem?

One full day covers the Old City highlights: the Western Wall, the Via Dolorosa and the Holy Sepulchre. Two or three days let you add the Mount of Olives, the City of David, Yad Vashem and a half day in Bethlehem.

What should I wear in Jerusalem's holy sites?

Cover shoulders and knees at churches, the Western Wall and the Temple Mount. Comfortable shoes matter too, because the Old City is all stone streets and steps.

Can I visit Jerusalem on a day trip from Tel Aviv?

Yes. Jerusalem is under an hour from Tel Aviv, and our Jerusalem day tours pick you up at your Tel Aviv hotel in the morning and bring you back in the evening.
